Change

Just to let everyone know – we have moved this fotoblog to a new server. That has meant some work in the background instead of on the weblog. I am finishing what I need to do. The new install has provided all new software for WordPress and Gallery, the two programs I use. The WordPress upgrade didn’t produce a lot of changes, except I have to figure out again how I will put fotos in my posts. Grrrrr.

The Gallery upgrade required a complete redo of the format because the old style is no longer supported. This means all my narrative on fotos (1000 entries) require changes. Fortunately, the new version provides some tools for doing it but it doesn’t prevent me from having to touch every fotos. That will take a little time. I don’t like the navigation the new version provides. It doesn’t expose the gallery structure for people to walk through it as easily as I would like. I’m going to have to do some work to make it easier for people to move through and find new areas. So, what little time I have is being spent cleaning up some of these issues. Not fun, but it needs doing.

I have some new fotos and some new stories to maybe over the weekend, if I can get caught up, I’ll get a new one posted. Don’t count on it though… —>

Please

I’ve decided I’m going to upgrade the software I use here to WordPress 1.5. I expect everything to return to normal after getting it customized to my unique outlook on things, but during the change there are bound to be days when you can’t tell which end is up.

No problems, it is a normal thing.

So—stay tuned while we adjust the trimmings here. We will return to business as usual. —>

Testing

Ok – the fotos problem is solved or on its way to be.

Now for some strong and geeky stuff. I am trying Textile to see if it will make it easier to make my writing colorful.

Ok – I’m testing a way to put fotos up. Let’s see how it works…

I can see it does work, now the question is how to control things. That will have to wait until tomorrow I can see. It is sort of a gallery, but I am going to have to play with it to see if it really does what I want. Right now it is hard to say.

Next day – I’m using WordPress to base this weblog on. I was using MovableType before and I liked it. In the end though, all journal systems are some sort of compromise between usability and suitability to your needs. I decided to try WordPress because it is open source and supported by a large community of users and developers. It is still rough around the edges in some ways, good in others. Time and attention will eventually fix those problems.

Work

I guess if you have looked at the place holder I have had here for a while, you can tell I really am starting to work on it. Let’s call it a “Work In Progress” – OK?

I have found some ways to put fotos here I like and I have more fooling with the banner yet to do. I just got tired of looking at it doing nothing in particular so… I started changing.

I am in Sacramento by the way. I won’t be here too long – but for now the foggy, overcast, and cold Central Valley is just fine. —>
